Choose the right credit card services for you

Tuesday March 25, 2008

Credit card services are not as unilateral as you may think. No credit card will offer the best in every aspect as each one is balanced to provide the card issuer with the biggest likelihood of profit.

If you are trying to find a credit card to help you reduce your debt, then you will want to find a low interest rate coupled with a healthy number of interest free days as well as low interest balance transfers. This should hopefully minimise the amount you will pay on purchases with the card. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that you will pay the lowest annual fee or have access to a rewards program. This is because if you use the card to keep out of debt, you are unlikely to make the card issuer any money beyond the annual fee.

For savings, you are much better off choosing a card with interest free days and a rewards program or other such benefit. If you pay off your balance before the interest free period ends for your purchases, then you should benefit from both interest earned on your savings in addition to reward points. This level of credit card services will likely cost you a high interest rate and a higher annual fee, but as long as you are diligent in repayments and don't use the card as an extension of funds, then you should be able to come out on top.
